Let me catch you guys up because the last post was pitifully vague. The plane ride was good, a little too much turbulance for my liking, but good. The z and the y are switched on Debo's computer so don't be surprised if I tzpe 'Sanyo'.
Yesterday I slept on the train to Munich because I just couldn't help it and last night I got almost no sleep because of it. Damn jet lag! So today I woke up at 11:30 and after a quick shower rushed out with hand-written directions from Debo of how to get to the center to catch the tour of Dachau. After asking at least three people "Marienplaz?" with furrowed eyebrows, I finally found the tour (by the same people of the free walks, but not free!).
The tour was AMAZING. The tour guide was so incredibly knowledgeable and so sensitive to the horrendous things that took place at this famous concentration cmap even though he'd given the tour almost 200 times. (He was also verz good-loking, which helps.) It was freezing but we toured mostly outside, surrounded by the original buildings that prisoners had built 64 years ago. It was amazing; I learned so much more than I thought I knew about the disgustingly horrible practices of the camp and it was so eye-opening.
On the tour I met a group of girls from Australia and when I told one of them I was from CT, she was like "Oh! I want to go to Connecticut so badly!" I said "Really? Why?" Haha. I also met two girls from Michigan who were student teaching special education at a military base and in Munich for the weekend.
When we got back, the incredibly knowledgeable and good-looking tour guide helped me navigate a German kiosk to discover that if I were to take a night train to Prague, I'd have two stopovers in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere! So I'm going to leave Munich early Thursday morning instead.
Overall a pretty great first day! Can't wait to go to bed....
